![]() I do the same thing for melodies and instrumental tracks, just starting with the most basic parts and then putting them together later to make a finished product.įLR: Do music and comics tap into different parts of your brain/heart/soul or do you feel like there’s a fair amount of overlap? Is there anything you feel like you can do in one medium that you can’t in the other? I’ll sketch out a couple lines or maybe a verse just by itself, sort of like word doodles that I can use for later when I want to make something more complete. After a while, though, I started trying to approach it the same way I approach drawing. My songwriting process used to be so different, like I’d get so frustrated if an entire song didn’t come out of my brain fully-formed. Making comics is a really huge passion of mine. I’ve always really enjoyed cartooning, which is somehow way harder than realism for me. And wow, that’s so hard… Probably “Worried Shoes”! Followed really closely by “My Yoke Is Heavy.”įLR: You’ve been making visual art for much longer than that, right? How does songwriting compare for you? Is the process similar? L: Yep, only a year! I get that a lot less now when I meet new people since the show’s been over for a couple years but it still happens. L: haha No, not at all! I loved 30 Rock so I really embraced it during high school. I changed my Facebook name to Liz Lemon as a joke for a few months as a freshman in college and, like, just a couple months before graduation I found out a few of my classmates genuinely thought my name was Liz Lemon for four entire years.įLR: Do you totally resent Tina Fey now? Is it like the Michael Bolton situation with the guy in Office Space? People always make Liz Lemon jokes about my name, like endlessly since 2006. My current hamster’s name is Snack and she’s really noisy? She screams sometimes, which was really alarming the first time it happened but it’s not unusual apparently.įLR: Do people make a lot of Liz Lemon jokes about your name? ![]() ![]() I have a dog! His name is Toddie but I call him Mr. I’ve been making comics since I was in middle school but nothing more than a couple pages long until my first full-length comic book in college.
